2-pin vs 3-pin flasher relays

Post by chimpboy »

Is there any significant difference between these two? I am doing a bit of a rewire and could go with either; the vehicle had 2-wire flasher relays originally but not much of the wiring will be original when I'm finished.

Any thoughts? So far I can't think of a reason to go with one over the other.

I had to figure it out once, when I was re-wiring a forklift, and it took me a while to get my head around it. But not as long to forget it all again.

I'd wander into a few auto supply stores and see if one is more readily available than the other - because I'm fairly certain they're not really "interchangeable." Wire up to use what's easiest to replace.

Two pins cans are more common.
If your car has a 3 pin plug you can fit a 2 pin can but not the other way around.

Thanks guys. I have two-pin ones so I guess I'll reuse those. I was wondering if there was some reason why one type would be technically better than the other but it seems not :)

the 3 pins are typically electronic (not always) as opposed to thermal, they last longer, they dont slow down if you hook up a trailer or more lights and dont offer much else.
