I have bought a '77 BJ40 with a holden 308 conversion with a 4-speed. I can easily aquire a pair of 60 series crusier diffs with discs and a power steering setup.
How easy is this conversion and what may be needed. I looked in the crusier bible and there wasnt much on the 40's. Thanks

The 60 series Power steering goes in reasonably easy - transplant it complete from the steering wheel to the steering arm. You'll need to shorten the driveshaft though. I just had to cut a hole under the battery box in my FJ40 with the 2F, but the exhaust manifold of yours may get in the way. The shock mounts need to be removed, but I used the FJ60 shocks & mounts with the bottom shackle plates. The other option which allows longer travel shocks is to put Ford F250 shock towers in.
The rear axle from the 60 needs the spring mounts moved slightly closer together - grind em off & re-weld. The front axle is more difficult since the right side mount is already next to the diff so it can't be moved further inwards. You'd have to modify the chassis mounts so they fit on the outside of the chassis rails. The disc brakes are an easy transplant though - just swap everything outboard of the swivel hubs.
