2.7 Petrol Prado power upgrades?

Hi All

We have inherited a 90 series RV Prado with the 2.7 petrol motor and manual gearbox in mint condition with 125,000K on the clock which drives very nicely compared to our '91 LPG GQ Patrol with 300,000km.

We are considering keeping it for touring purposes and would throw suspension, tyres, roof rack, dual batteries and long range petrol tank at.

We have towed our 1 tonne camper trailer with it and it is just bearable in the power department (much like our tired Patrol).

Is it possible to turbo/supercharge these suckers without degrading the longevity and reliability of the engine and more to the point how much would this cost approx.?

If we could throw some cash knowing it will deliver the power/reliability we would consider keeping it as a tourer for the long term rather than changeover to something else.

What are your experiences/comments?

I think supercharging would cost a heap for a new, reliable and properly set-up system. I wouldn't turbo a petrol 4B that I wanted for reliabilty but maybe that is just me.

I have a 3.4 auto prado and wouldn't even bother towing large loads for any reasonable distance. Maybe it's time to sell both up and buy a newer, nicer and more powerful truck

Unfortunately the car you have is not suited for the job you want it to do. You will lose your off road drivability and reliability to get any sort of power out of the 2.7 that is going to please you. The 2.7 will be working hard to drag your car and all your touring gear around.
As suggested you may want to look at another vehicle more suited to the task at hand
