1-HDT problem on corrugated road

Post by pridhac »

Folks,

Firstly, happy new year to all, I am back at work today

Over the break, I discovered an issue with my '91 GXL 1-HDT.

I camp each year at Honeymoon Bay, on Jervis Bay NSW. The road into the camp ground is 5 or so Km in length and is usually heavily corrugated.

When driving on this surface, my engine stops! All electrics remain (clock, radio etc) but the motor stops. If I change down gears, and the road smooths out a little, with a little coughing and spluttering (not much though) the motor restarts and continues until the next section of heavy corrugation.
If driving too slowly when it dies sometime it would roll to a halt, and would then require 5-10seconds of cranking to restart.

Has anyone had this problem? Is this enough info? Any tips appeciated.

Cheers

Chris

I had a problem that sounds the same, mine was crap in the fuel tank and with all the corrugated roads it stired the crap up and blocked the lines and cloged the fuel filter and lots of white smoke.

I had exactly the same problem as well. Mine was caused by air getting into the fuel filter. I assume the air getting in wasn't allowing enough fuel to go through. It was never tightened up properly by the mechanic. Once tight it was all good. It was quite a worry because I was at the back of Alice Springs somewhere.

Solenoid wiring seems most likely. Anyone know where the solenoid is on a 1HDT?

Look around the back of the injection pump.
