hi,
does anyone run an older AIT turbo system or has driven one and compared to a later style turbo kit such as dts,axt etc?

just after any information or experience people have had, also if the manfold is the same as any other cast turbo manifold ?

thanks Alan

my gq runs an ait kit on it. it has had it on there since 1988.
the manifolds have a standard t3 flange pattern

my car was making just shy of 150hp at about 14 psi with an ait turbo and pump mods but the turbo is getting a tad tired and isnt as effiecint anymore prob closer to 130 now

they commonly crack the exhaust housing under the wastegate flap but you can still buy parts for them thru turbo australia here in brisbane just a housing is thta dear its not economically viable

if you want to know anything more specific just ask if i dont know i can prob put you onto someone who will

are you able to just change the manfold and use an MTQ one instead?

the flange pattern should be the same but the dump pipe abd oil lines etc may need modding to line up right

whats wrong with the ait manifold?

it has already been welded not that is a problem, tried to get someone to install it for me and they say it is not worth doing that the technology is too old.
I sort of fail to see that there has been leaps and bounds with manifold advancement, also was told something about the wastegate not being external?

Basically all deisel turbo's have internal wastegates so they are talking crap. Only bigger higher powered turbo's (in general) need external wastegates. Most factory setups have internal wastegates as well. If you have it then stick it on. The rest of the motor is older technology so what's the issue?

they are a garrett t3 core same as prob 50% of turbo kits for gq's
if the turbo has no shaft play etc put it on and dont go back to the "expert" that said dont bother

as i said mine was making 150hp most kits out there are right on there limits at that power so i fail to see the problem
tho i do intend to replace my turbo with a ball bearing turbo one day when i find a pot of gold
