just regarding putting 2 little diff winches on my moon buggy....

i can get 2 tonne non braked T max winches at a reasonable price, or the smallest braked winch is 6 tonne and much larger cost....

curious as to what u guys use on your buggys, can i get away with non braked winches just for diff winching work? will it hold the diff down? can i possibly use some sort of setup of pulleys to make these non braked winches hold?

what is the actual difference between a non braked and a braked winch.

Jeff if you are thinking on competing at any time then check the rules on minimum winch size.
Mate really for a buggy i would just go one of the Cheap Ebay 9000 or the likes.

ive read the rules, rope only no cable, 5000pound minimum.....

ken oath ill be competing. wont be competitive at the start cause my buggy will break like sin with cheap bits in it at the start, but im in it for fun

Front only screwy. The non braked type you talk off are they like the Super works boat winches?

front only kewl. so ill get a 5 tonne for the front and a small little one for the rear.

The non braked are Tmax 2 tonne non braked winches. can get them through fourbies.

instead if plasma rope and such, could you use a snatch strap or whinch extension strap?

Front has a minimum of 5000 pound. And dont think there is anythn out there that is that size that is not braked? Safer to have though i think and will hold when winching down on the Diff.
I use a cheap ebay $ 500 9000 and its fine. And everyone uses the super works boat winches as they seem to last alot longer than anything else. Also they are only bout $130.00 but cheaper when super crap has 20% off sale Double line it aswell. When hooking it up.
I dont think its worth while spending big on winches for a buggy. Unless your thinking of not trying to drive stuff and Cable it
On the tie down strap note Andrew We tryed a 2500kg strap on a buggy once and it tore through
If plasma is a bit exy for yas try Yaucht rope as some of them are rated to unbeleivable amounts
Also i havent checked the rules for a bit but am shore last i looked you had to have a minimum of 20 metres of rope on a winch (front ) in case a self recovery is needed So if the rules are still that way then no need to buy 40 plus metres. Andrew you might as im shore your rig is a bit more versatile for diffrent comps than a tube buggy.
Anyway guys best to check the werock web site for all the rules to clarify everything.

Jeff you wont need a winch on the rear mate...save your money and spend it on something else more worthwhile...

Im not sure if thats what you mean.

If it dosent it wont be much good for winching diffs.

Mock I think the super works boat winches as used on a rear end are a non braked ( i think) but on a 2 seater with a double line it seems to hold against the shock presure.
