I think this had been tried before and has always ended in failure.

u can use the bundy hi/p or 80s the 80s runs 6cyl gears stronger. 4runner/surf lsd/ hemi fit the 80s centre also, it will get ur tail shaft up 4''

My rear hi pinion seems to be holding ok, althrough has developed a leak around the diff-housing seal. Havent done too many km's on it but what i have done has been hard (testing out supercharger) I am happy with it especially the awesome ground clearance.

Can I just run the hi pin from the front of the 80? Or is there a difference on the 80s?

Yes you can.
If it is has a factory electric locker you will need to do some slight mods to the axle housing.

did the hi pinion locker come in 4.88s or just 4.10? I seem to only be able to get the 4.10s to pull up at the auto wreckers.

4.88s in a high pinion are very rare. Only a few import bundys have them.
You can of course buy aftermarket gear sets for high pinion diffs in 4.88.
