Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Bought one of the el chepo inverters at Jaycar (the little can sized ones) and had found it invaluable running lights, charging cordless tool bateries and so on. Unfortunately it has decided to part company after running 3 reasonable large fluro lights off it for a couple or hours.

So now that i have flat batteries for my drill after a Sunday spent working with no charger i'm looking for something a little more permanent.

Will a 1,500 watt cont. 3,000 peak do the job for me?

All it needs to do is run lights on the odd occasion, carge tool batteries and maybe run a laptop.

the gen is not important but if you scroll down there is a wattage chart that shows, what things use and most important what wattage they need for start up. cheers tim[/url]

oh important thing to remember but this chart is for genarator even tho you'll have the wattage your batterys won't last long for some of the bigger things eg FRIDGES, MOTORS, WASHING MACHINES

IF you are in fact drawing 1500 watts ( and thats unlikely with the things you have listed ) that translates to a minimum DC input of 125+ Amps ) your going to need an impressive battery system to operate at this power level.

Obviously if you draw less output power the input power will go down as well, but I am just trying to illustrate the issues associated with high power inverters.

The 1200w / 1500w / 2000 / 2500w and 3000w ebay jobbies can be got for around $150 to $250 which aint bad. The 1200w to 2000w invertors will fit very nicely on the passenger side under the dash of GU's, and the cables that come with them will just fit through the firewall to a second battery very nicely. Cant comment for any other vehicle.

Bought me old man a 1500w jobbie for christmas, mounted it the next day. Runs his 9 inch angle grinder with no drama's.

The 3000w jobbie that I bought comes with four chunky cables, since your looking at around 350 to 400+ amps at full pelt, but thats a hell of a lot of power that is complete overkill and will probably never use.
Could run an inverter stick welder from it... But dunno for how long.

Can't see it doing anything heavier that what i have listed above, anything more i can use my generator.
