Turbine A/R Q

Im looking at the GT3582R to fit to my 1FZFE.

I am given 3 options of turbine A/R sizes of 0.68, 0.82, 1.06

My understanding is that a low A/R will allow the turbo to obtain boost at lower speeds / rpm but run out of puff sooner where as a high A/R takes longer to obtain boost but runs higher into the rev range.

A brief outline of the vehicle includes 35s, 4:56s. It isnt a big revver by any stretch and there isnt much after 4000rpm. @ 100kph it sits around 2650rpm. Future mods will include LR reduction gears.

My goal is to get the torque in as early as possible to get the weight
moving but still have enough left for good overtaking response in 4th and 5th etc.

So my question is what would be the best compomise in turbine A/R to get it singing from 1500/1800rpm > 4000+ rpm.

And unless you can raise a genuine reason why I should use another turbo all together...... please dont.

how big is the 1fzfe?

the exhaust wheel will also come into effect on boost response if its a P trim (assumption here) i would go the .85 or .1 if the engine is 4l. if bigger go the 1.06 if smaller go the .85. i wouldn't go the .6 unless you were down around 3l.

This is the 4.5l petrol motor in the 80/100 series landcruisers.

Ill start pricing 2morrow.

you need to take a look at the compressor map.

It'll have RPM v Turbo boost.

Get one that'll boost over the diesels full RPM range.

The different exhaust housing a/r sizes are there as tuning aids. You have to check turbine inlet pressure and see when boost pressure comes on so that you can determine which housing is the best for you. Unfortunately there is no way of finding this out until its on the vehicle.

The turbo you listed is a big turbo, maybe slightly too big.

Hope this helps

Cheers guys,

While Im sure the GT3582R will do the job I also know its definately not small. Im thinking of the bigger picture as my intention now is to fit it to the vehicle as is with the expectation that I will get a couple of years use out of it before having to rebuild the engine. When doing so Id like to have a few extra mods done to cater for "more power" without me having to spend extra on another turbo.

Best price by the way is $1870 as opposed to $2075 (this is with external waste gate).

I was expecting far worse.....
