starting rough...

My feroza is a little rough to start when cold. i think its only in wet weather, as i only bought it last night and it hasnt stopped raining yet.
when you turn the key it tries ti kick into life immediately, then coughs a little and you have to keep the key turned on the starter for a few more seconds. it will then start and you can GENTLY feather the throttle for a few seconds before it all settles in nicely.

as i said, it didnt do it when i first test drove it, on a nice day, so it may be water related.

anyone have any ideas...

What sort of speed does it try to idle at when cold and first started?

seems like its idling slow. if i feather the throttle it goes to about 2000rpm, still rough then smoothes out very quickly and idles just about 1000rpm.
once it warms up it idles about 800rpm.

i was thinking i should clean the injectors to see if that helps.
if it ever stops raining here, i will be able to tell if it happens all the time, or only when wet.

There's a valve in the throttle body that opens when the coolant's cold to increase the idle- you could be having problems with that sticking.

It's easy enough to check by taking the inlet piping off the throttle body and then you can block the oval entry hole off with your finger while the engine has just started to check if it's open.

Check here for pics of what I'm talking about: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... php?t=8640

Try that first and then go from there.

it literally only does it for like 5 seconds though, i wouldnt have time to check that before it smoothed out and ran fine.

i wouldn't worry mate, my zook will stall while trying to idle when cold, is a pig to start, and needs at least 5min of gentle driving before it'll run smoothly

But you'd expect that sort of behaviour from a Suzuki carburettor engine- not from a sewing machine smooth Daihatsu EFI powerhouse! :D

It's most likely not that valve then if it only lasts for 5 seconds.

:onfire: ouch ouch i been burnt, lol. dunno 'bout daihatsu and powerhouse in the same sentance tho :D i came from a rocky 2.8TD tho (rolled it  ), so the lil carby 1.3 does seem to lack a lil something. have been looking into the option of installing a few more rubber bands or perhaps an extra hampster wheel for more power
