So i have found another truck its an fj40 swb petrol, the problem is as soon as i get it on a hill it wants to stall spewin heaps of black smoke out the exaust. I cleaned out the carby and filled the fuel tank but this had no effect. Could it be the float level and how hard is it to change ?

Cheers Adam

All the Jap carbys I've seen adjust the fuel level by bending the lever arm the float hangs off. Pull the top cover off and have a look - it should be obvious how to lower the float level, so give it a go!

Cheers,

Scott

Cheers see you up there...

Also changed the float level but it didn't help i had a look through the glass on the carby and there was no fuel in it at all....I'll change the fuel pump to see if thats the problem...?

If you have another pump it can't hurt to try. Your description of the problem sounds like too much fuel flooding the engine. When its spewing smoke have you lifted the top of the carby to see what's going on?

I've heard of people removing the bonnet and air cleaner, then having someone sit in the engine bay to watch the carby

Of course, if I wasn't interstate, I'd volunteer...

Good luck,

Scott

If you can, try changing the carby. Could also be fuel pump but would not think so.
