Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys

got ready , and started driving to my sisters 40km away last nite , 2 km from home the sierra started reving up and down and all around with my foot stable on the accelerator , then it would just konk out , also i kept starting it and geting about 20m with it reving all around up n down then just konking out again , it was also backfiring as loud as a 308 ,

its sorta like the engine is losing power from the dissy or coil or something cus now i got towed home and it will turn over , u can see the fuel geting to the carb , but it wont start???

my setup is standard engine , 2 inch exaust , weber carb
any ideas what the problem is???????/

Well, as long as its getting air, I would say the next thing to do is pull out a plug, attach its lead and hold it next to the block whilst someone cranks the engine for you. If you see a spark, move on if not, its likely your leads or more likely your coil.

The second option is that your carb is playing silly buggers. It might need to be pulled apart and thoroughly cleaned/rebuilt. You may have also flooded it whilst trying to start the car. Aslo, check all vacuum lines as fluctuating revs can mean a loss of vacuum somewhere along the line.

Another option is that your timing is horribly out. If you rotate the crank by hand to TDC on cylinder one, you can approximate the timing via checking the rotor buttons position in relation to the dizzy cap.

After you have checked these things and nothing is obviously wrong, you can proceed to fill the swear jar.

well totaly stripped the carby and scrubbed her down and fiddled with the diz , , seems to be running better then ever now .
