Overheating fixed-BEWARE

I recently posted a thread on here in relation to a hotter than normal running GQ petrol where it had run at a half and over after fitting a new radiator. Well it's ben fixed ironically as a result of the new radiator splitting the top hose connector and the whole radiator being replaced. The initial new radiatopr turns out to be a chinese import that cost me $450 unfitted. It was a three core replacing my original 2 core. The supplier now has admitted that the imports are weak, flimsy and the core are narrow resulting in the hotter running. The Australian made one I now have is solid and the car runs at 0ne/third again. I don't consider $450 to be cheap for a radiator and I certainly wasn't given the "cheap import or expensive Australian option. I thought I was buying a new radiator. Anyway so beware. A couple of hundred extra is worth it. Scott.

Thanks for the heads up mate. I was having massive over heating on mine and thought i might need a new one myself but turned out a good flush of mine and filling the fan clutch up with new oil was the answer in the end.

I was looking at getting a new radiator recently and most of the radiator places said to be careful of the Chinese imports.

I ended up fixing the problem by lowering the radiator shroud 2" to match the BL and putting the lower skirt back on. THis alone dropped the temps by a 1/4

Andrew, the Chinese one has a fitting in the lower housing for either a temp sensor for the fuel injected models and a plug for the others, meaning one radiater fits all. And they are flimsy. The top hose housing could be moved from side to side. The Australian one I have is from ADRAD and made in S.A. We have a new mechanic come parts guy in Lilydale in Vic. I noticed the other day he has the Chinese ones for sale. Scott.

Just been through the same issue. Bought a so called quality radiator from a Nationally based Radiator service, dual core. $390. After the orig nissan one had its top hose mount removed by the fan. First replacement radiator actually was damaged inside the box ( undamaged box) and was replaced under warranty. After replacing the pump, clutch fan, thermostat. the radiator guy had no idea how to get the car to stop over heating, And said its just a GQ issue they all do it.
Ordered the replacement side tank from Nissan $70 and got the old radiator rebuilt. Now car is back as new. temp sits at 1/3 even towing uphill on a hot day. When reinstalling the original I noticed the aftermarket radiator had already started to leak thru a seam. Poor quality. So got money back as second warranty claim on these imported aftermarket radiators. Stay away from these poor quality radiators. :!:

Been chasing my overheating issue for ages.... Finally fitted an Aussie Desert Cooler 4 row triple bypass brass/copper radiator on the weekend to my petrol GQ. Gauge now sits at 1/3 and only moves a bees d!ck when climbing bloody steep hills.

Cost me $693 inc freight. Bolts straight in. Very happy!!

Are you running a separate trans cooler for your auto? I found that doing so takes a lot of excess heat out of your rad and helps keep your auto temp down especially when running on 35's etc..

ADRAD / Natrad are the same company now and their Patrol radiators are not worth a squirt of goat-piss.

Check out the last 2 posts on tj81's first link.

The one I replaced it with is from WA and is much better quality and was about the same price, around the $500 - $550 mark for the 3 core.

did you only do the shroud or both shroud and radiator this mat be my problem mines diesel though and only seems to get hot towing and hard load like hill climbs etc

Mines a turbo diesel auto.
I haven't dropped the radiator, too big of a job.
I have used sheet metal to lower the shroud to match the fan. I have found this to make a considerable difference as the air is forced through the radiator.

I may look into a larger radiator later as I may soon be towing a camper trailer

Most of the time it sits on or just below 1/2, but occasionally it gets over 3/4's. But it is not overheating at this stage and the vehicle has never actually overheated.
As many will say the gauge is set so that any where under the line where HOT is acceptable.

wow mines sits on 1/4 most off the time and gets up to and abit over half and i start to stress maybe i shouldnt worry so much its never over heated but has got up near H when towing fully load camper up the range towards LCMP normal have to pull over just incase but i have change some things since last time up so ill have to see if its still a major prob ;)btw mines n/a diesel but has had pump wounded up abit
