Suspension advice/thoughts/experience

Getting ever closer to finishing off my RR, so now it is time to turn my attention to the suspenion.

I am running 35's, 2" body lift and currently the RR has +4" springs. I need to start organising custom brake lines and new shocks, so the decision i am struggling with is to either keep the 4" spring lift or ditch it and go for a 2" lift.

The high centre of gravity of the 4" spring setup causes me worries, and i am not after massive articulation, i think massive articulation is more about photo ops than performance.

I would appreciate any thoughts feedback or experience that you can pass on.

Cheers

hey mate, i have 33"s under my rangie, no body lift, but got 4" - 5" springs, rangie spares orange in front and white/green in back with spacers to lift the rear a bit, springs are firm but not too soft either, i find i still have decent travel with 4" longer bilstein shocks all round

anyway thats my setup, others may vary, but im happy how it is

Why not keep the 4" lift, but use softer springs so the ride height is lower?

I drove around on a 2" lift Rangie and I thought it was a good height for off road. As long as you set it up with sliders and good approach and departure angles.

I tied in the rear coils and ran 26.5" shocks in the rear (675mm. Stock length is 555mm so 5" longer then standard) and put 24.5" shocks in the front and used every bit of the shocks although my front bushes were worn. Unless you tie in the 4" coils this is more suspension travel then 4" lift coils.

I ran 33" tyres with no body lift but the body lift isn't a bad idea. For 35's you would need a body lift.

For my 2" lift I just ran stock rear coils in the front and new coils in the back. If you had a winch then I would get slightly heavier coils in the front.

Massive articulation depends on what you call massive articulation but I think this setup is a great compromise.

By the way, just set up the brake lines to suit the 4" lift.
If you have 4" lift shocks and they are still good just keep them and tie in your 2" lift coils.
I can get you Procomp shocks that just bolt in if you don't have shocks but there are alternatives.

Bump,

Surely has got to be more feedback than that.

Don't be shy.

A 3" lift might be a good compromise. There are a off the shelf item but if the spring rates don't suit I can get them made up for you at no extra cost.

Best performing Rangie I have seen was Chris Hummer's.

Only about 40mm of lift but used 80 Series Front Ridepro Shocks with the front Towers Spaced up.

80 Series front in the rear again but with a truck eye added and chassis mount moved up about 2 inches also.

75 Series Rear second shock each side in rear.

Worked much better than what I had when I owned your Rangie.

Worth havin a look at Jamie's Disco at All Ranges in Bayswater as his is much the same.
