Tri matic actually has GMH written on the tag on the side.

Turbo 350/400 usually has hydramatic stamped into the pan, if the pan has been changed then you will have to look at the pan shape to determine.

The Trimatics pan is more rectangular & deeper. Hydro is shallower but has a larger surface area.

Turbo 700 is large, rectangular & faily deep.

Google some pics.

If it has 7/16" dowels it is a aussie pattern, 1/2" dowels is a turbo pattern

marks adaptors site has diagram on how to tell

Chev bolt pattern is further spaced than the Holden one. It is hard to tell just by looking at it.

253 or 308.

All 253's are Holden, most 308 manuals are Holden pattern while a good majority of Autos are Chev pattern except for later versions in bommadores where the turbo was not an option.

Do a search as I think this has been covered here before.

VN series V8's are all Chev Turbo pattern

Probably, because they went back to the US transmission (TH700) with them, I was assuming it was an early model with the lack of info as a VN 5 litre actually looks different (heads, rocker covers & such).
