Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys the other day my dad said something about having a water heater on my mates 4wd so you can have hot shower's?

So i am putting this post on here to hear any ideas on how to do this?

Any idea are arprecated and will be taken under advisement.

Yes that works but we are actually looking at any ideas on how to make it our selfs as a project.

I have some ideas that will work but are a little impractical for 4wding. They will work but not if you want to go 4wding or keep going later on.

But thanks anyway.

One of the dudes in this thread mentioned something about making his own... have a look and shoot him a PM.

Ive seen a couple made using copper pipe bent into a "spiral" that is the enclosed in a housing. On the housing you have 2 connections at each end. One connection on each end is the copper pipe, your hot water from the cars cooling system flows through this. The 2 housing connections (1 each end) you pump your cold water through, goes in cold, heat gets transfered to the cold water and comes out the other end warm/hot, the ones I saw made had to be alot bigger than the commercially available one to get the same heat out of them.

IMO just buy a kit from Glind, Piranha etc, by the time you make/get all the parts (heat exchanger, decent self priming pump, filter, heater hose, water hose, connections, clamps, wiring etc etc) you will spend a similar amount as you would to buy a whole kit, you will also end up with something smaller and easier to install that you know will work when you install it.

Another thing to consider is that if you bugger up and your heat exchanger dumps all your water out of your cooling system and you cook a motor you have no warranty at all, at least with a kit from a reputable retailer you might have some sort of warranty (check first)

Also i get your point about the whole after you buy all the parts and stuff you will be up to the same price as an actual kit. Yes thats a valid point but we want to do this as a project for our 4wds and i think ours will work well and once we workout the plans i will post pics and plans on here don't worry.
