Im looking at buying a 94 vitara jlx estate 1.6l with 230000ks on the clock. It appears to have been well maintained, I was wondering how good these engines are and if they were maintained how many ks could I expect before a rebuild. Any info would help greatly as I honestly dont know a thing about lil zooks apart from the fact that they look mad!

Probably a good idea to search the bible...
The 1.6 is a good little motor, but like anything it depends on how it's been driven and maintained as to how many km's you're gunna get out of it. I had to replace the donk in my old one at 175,000km when I bought it (farked head gasket and cracked head) coz it hadn't been looked after. Engines are fairly cheap and easy to get hold of.
I'm considering buying another one before long as my ex got my old one when we split

They can go forever if treated right.
Buy it.
I helped someone buy an auto JLX 4 door for $3000 on the weekend, has 280000km on it but still in really good condition

I"ve got a 94' jlx estate wagon, i bought it with 212,000 k's on the clock.
When i bought it like other vitaras it needed a head replacement, which cost me around 1000 bucks (more if u want someone else to do it). Apart from taht, and replacing the exhaust and extractors its been spot on. Like has already been said if u look after them they'll look after you.
My only suggestion is that if down the track your head does crack, invest in getting the engine rebuilt rather than just swaping in another one, because the swaped in engine will just do the same thing later on. The head i bought was a locally made one from melbourne that is of much more robust construction, and i now know the history of the components.
Also if u plan on doing offroading invest in a suspenion lift like i did, as its only other weekness is its ramp over angle.

i bought my 94 jlx with 150,000kms. been well looked after (city driver...got it serviced every 10,000) and the engine feels very strong, much better then the others i drove with 175-200,000 so either they die quick between those numbers, or it's just a matter of getting one well looked after. I looked for a year before finding this one. i found anything under $5000 was a piece of junk with 250-300,000 kms on them with a very hard life.
I got this one for $4500.
