Problem is i don't really know how to do it myself.....idea is to get help out installing the engine to get an understanding of mechanincs.l...basically have no idea...wanting to start and get to know alot. problem is it helps to be around people who know their stuff,.....noone i know atcully knows their stuff.

so in all....very noobie...but have a sierra have gone offroad a few times and absolutley love it...can't wait to do it again....i need to car for normal onroad stuff aswell.

as you can tell a bit of a prediciment.....any recomendations????

also that 512Culin Dart alloy.......i'll give you my girlfriend for it.

How much would you think the 16v 1.6 would be for install included??

To fit a 16V 1.6 to your Zook, first thing you have to do is find an engine.
Keep an eye out for a Vitara front cut (import) or wrecking or just buy a whole car if you find one cheap. Should be able to source one for $1500 or so. That will get you all the bits you need incl computer then you just have to fit an adaptor kit..
ImageUS$259.

Fitting the engine is a simple job that any mechanic should be able to do in a day. The wiring and little extras like air intake and slighly larger radiator shouldn't take long either. Assuming it takes a mechanic two full days then you'd be up for 16 X about $50/hour.. $800 maybe more.. Ring around and get quotes. Tell them you'll work as a T/A if it'll help save $$$.

I'm with MART!

Whats wrong with the stock engine or replacing it with the 1.3?

Posted: Thu Jan 31, 2008 6:46 pm

x3 with the original...if you've just got it why both changing it. MARTs is supercharged but mine is stock and with the right gearing on 34" tyres I can cruise at 100km/h on the highway and have more than enough power in the bush :D

g13bb is my pick i am very happy it and no adapters needed just some wireing

supercharged

whats involved with a supercharge.

how's it done and what sort of costs??

Why do you want more power?

With gearing Dank is turning 34" swampers and i'm turning 32" swampers! And were both cruising at 100k's on the high way!

more power!!

i want more power as get frustrated having to drop into 3rd gear at 60-70kms up what should be an easy hill.

Done alot of reading and 1.6 efi seems to be a a pretty easy conversion and not all that expensive......in sydney does anyone know how i would start this process??? ie any good mechanic who may have done this before...and where would you guys recommend i go for an actual engine???local wrecker?????

i know i ask alot of questions...but what exactley would be kept from the origional engine if i did conver to a 1.6 efi???

help is much much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Just get a good tune up and see if that makes a difference. My 1.3 will sit on 100 easy. In fifth gear but now the gear box is playing up it takes a little longer to get there. :D Buy the way mine is a lwb. :P

x4 with the original engine.

Your engine is tired and is not running at its optimum performance (probably both power & economy). My recon was only done a few months ago.

By adding extractors and a 2" sports exhaust system - both my fuel economy and performance have shown great improvement.

Economy: 9.6L per every 100km's and…
Power: I can easily sit on 110kph on highways.

Before the recon my fuel economy was 12L per every 100km's and I was struggling to sit on 90kph.

However so, there are plenty of guy's on Outer's who've done the 1.6L EFI conversions and they seem happy as well…

Don't want to be a downer but you can't buy an EFI engine and pay someone to swap it for $2-3K. No way.

Best case:

Engine - $1600
Adapter - $200
Fuel tank/pump arrangement - $approx 400
Most auto elecs will want $600- $1k to wire - it's at least a full day

that's $2800 starting, add a VSS, extractors, air filter arrangements, clutch.... No labour in the conversion....

A G13BB is an easy fit, but the motors tend to run around $2500, with the same cost in wiring exhaust and fuel system, but no adapter.

Items retained from your old motor - the sump and the oil pick up. That's it.

If you do a carby swap, you can swap a 1.6 bottom end and retain your 1.3 head/manifolds. (assuming your valvegear is in good nick etc) A drive in drive out cost on a 1.6 conversion done this way is over $3K in Victoria.

Don't forget and engineers report - $600+ or you may end up with a canary you can't shift without wrecking the car out.

I agree, for your budget, make sure your 1.3 is spot on and make sure your gearing is correct for your tyre size, it will make a world of difference. You haven't told us anything about your gearing, tyre size etc.

Oh, and : Image

This has been discussed over and over again.

in brisbane i can get a 4agze for $1250. i think its just the engine though, nothing else.

and yes 3k is wat i was quoted for a 1.6 carby engine drive in drive out at suzisport.

I agree BigD - GZE's are cheap(ish) but if you had to pay the labour for a swap it would get VERY expensive I think - there's lots more labour in a GZE swap than a G13BB or even G16B MPFI.

Steve is right. I have done all three swaps and the GZE is by far the most labour intensive.

i would personaly go for the 1.6 short motor and get my 1.3 head on top. but seeing as my engine is fine other than a few oil leaks which im having fixed soon, its in very good condition. unless my engine blows up or dies on me, im keeping it for as long as i can.

and as every1 has said 456789053294756457 times, gearing fixes everything lol

power up!!

ok so i have decided an engine conversion may be a little expensive...so im going to try and get my 1.3 into some good nick. What do you guys suggest for maybe $1000 to spend/.....tune up extractors etc etc?

also as s newb how does one check/alter the gearing of the zook.

Also i recently fell into some trouble.......i hate to say it but i left the hand brake down in my zook and the next thing its half way into the bush!! took out a couple of trees on its way down also....couldn't believe the beast survived never mind the only damage to be the bullbar....its now on an angle and not sitting right....i dunno how to add a pic from my pc on the message to show you guys but any thoughts??????????
