Whether a GU stereo unit with CD player will fit in a GQ dash without too many hassles please??
Would like to know this asap as I am getting offers of good GU units from all over the place.

TIA.

hi
without actually knowing exactly i'd say its a fair bet to fit!!
stereo units are pretty universal!!
From all the years iv been chopping and changing stereo's you come to learn that the main difference is there either 1 or 2 "decks' high!
Widths are mostly all the same!
If youv got the gq with the double decker stez just take the whole lot out if its the single just take that and the tray underneith it out.
cheers

Why would you bother with a GU unit when you can buy a good MP3/DVD/WMA player for bout 250-300, that will eat the stocky crap GU one.

I agree with bogged... I wouldn't waste time mucking around with a stock stereo..

you can buy Pioneer or ken wood etc double slot size stereos, from 250 ish right up to your dvd playing ones for 800 or so... the width's are all standard size and you only have the choice of single or double hight size...

dont waste your time with a stocko stereo! plus car stock stereos are usually a bitch to get in and out cause they have anti theft screws and bolts and welds! and they dont come with the mounting bracket

haha and the reason your probably getting good offers is cause ppl are ripping them out cause they are shit???????????????????????? only guessing

i wouldn't bother with anything but a clarion if you plan on using your 4b on corrogated roads/bad roads or wheeling! All my mates 4bi's decks skip like crazy when using cd's..although none of em have heard of an i-pod yet..

Well I supposed I need not have bothered asking about this on here really.
There are some folks about that like to keep their truck pretty much standard in some way or another....and I have found the original system works well for the limited amount that we use it...but it has an issue on am that is not easy to find or fix ...plus we have a few cds as well....so the obvious thing for me to do is repace it with a better one out of a TI or RX GQ....and / or a Gu one if it fitted. I DONT want heaps of power ...or any other electrical wizardry crap that has a shelf life of a nano second...just a simple system that looks like it was meant to be there and is reliable.
So to the cupple that have answered my question ..I thank you.
And to the rest....well.......
Could the admins or mods of this forum please lock this thread ..or remove it as I have found out enough.

Don't take it to heart buddy!! They were only answering the next question that you were going to ask if you couldn't fit the genuine one in!! Ha ha.

I've tried Panasonic (lasted 3 days), many Pioneers (eject mech. always shits itself), serveral Clarions (no HUGE dramas), and quite a few Sony's (cheap, bit nasty, but seem to take the biggest flogging), did bucketloads of stereos in a previous job and privately. And as simcoe said - iPod/MP3 players are the go for super rough bumps.

The two "standard" sizes are Single DIN and Double DIN (obviously ones twice the hight as stated), and also as Ibsn said, they can be a real job to get in/out cause of the anti-theft crap.

And Keithy (spoken in Chopper Reid character of course...), I'm not really into all the flashy stuff myself, but if you have a look around you can still buy a "fairly" basic head unit, although if stereo's always seem "too loud" you probly be struggling to find one with less that 45w/channel (BigW & KMART stereos excluded).

Hope this help you champ. Hope the other fellas didn't upset you.
