Hilux Transfer case strength?

Will a toyota transfer case hold up to 300kw at fly through an auto then a toyota t-case

very much like bj's setup  , only difference would be i would have both drive shaft flanges centred t-case and at the axle and have smaller tyres hanging off the ends

from what i can see the transfer case output seams to be the only problem :?:

what is the weak point on the transfer output shaft?

You building a race car or a 4wd ???

You may have problems with the output shaft as some have had (bj, POS). But with that kind of power you may have to worry about other things breaking, like CV's, axles, crown and pinions, etc.

I do not see the need for that much power in a fairly light 4x4 like your hilux. I have a stock v8 efi putting out 165kw and it is more then enough.

If I was you I would put the hilux together and get some seat time and then decide on some mods like V8 etc. You seem to have the running gear already in the hilux, just go with it and decide after you have driven it.

Gee a 22R that produces 300KW!!!

I don't think you really need to worry about the output shaft!!!

YOU NEED to worry about getting it built while your still young enoungh to use it

Anyway, yes the rear output shaft is the weakest link!

The only way to fix this is to buy a All-pro Heavy duty output shaft!

21spline input- broken where it necks down, i have been meaning to pull a t-case apart, can a new shaft be made to remove the neck down :?:

Bubs i would not even worry about the T/case!

It will not be your biggest problem!

You have so many other weak points before the T/case becomes an issue!

CV's, Inner axles, Diff centre's, Hubs, Splines twisting etc etc!!!!

It would not be worth the hassle and cost to get one made, like i already said if you really can't sleep at night worrying about it than buy a heavy duty output shaft from allpro, it will work out 100 times cheaper than fuck!ng about making your own!!!!!!!!

Also if you're concerned by the fact that Ruff, BJ and myself have all of a sudden started busting t/cases than you need to factor in a few things!

1. Bj is swinging 42's and Sh!tloads of Ponies, and uses plenty of right boot!

2. Ruff's case basically let go due to 2 or 3 years of solid abuse and also by selecting Low range 2wd!!!!

3. Mine also has coped 2 years of neglect and when a rig lands on all 4's and you havn't backed off something is going to give!

The other thing to remember is that we are not using NEW cases!!!! Most of these cases would already have anywhere from 7- 20 years of use before we get them!!!!!

So i think busting a t/case every 12 months is the least of your problems!!!

What shit? I don't see anything in the for sale section. However i would like to know if you can do me a dual- case xmember with 1" drivetrain lift and without the holes drilled for the chassis mounts.

Adrian, very good answers. Although a little rough around the edges, what you are saying is precisely accurate. Our rigs see plenty of abuse. Particularly yours. The rear output in yours broke after countless CVs, Axles (front and rears twisted) crown wheels, pinions and so on.

The design of the hilux transfer case is such that the front shaft takes drive from further down the shaft, so the front AND rear wheels load up the shaft at all times.

To my mind, the hilux output shaft is stronger than front and rear crown wheels in a hilux (Adrian and Tony have proved this on many occasions) I am running 9.25" crown wheels as opposed to 8"!! (That is why my crown wheel doesnt break, it just loads it up somewhere else!) Adrians broke after COUNTLESS abuse! Reckless driving and a double ledge at his wheelbase length which he hit full throttle!

Tony, he is just plain RUFF!!! His probably failed after years of similar abuse. I would think that yours will not have a problem. Particularly with under 35s. In fact I know a guy with one in a hilux, he has 33s and rapes it. It just wears the tyres! (Crown wheel = stronger than 33s) ;) shaft = stronger than crown wheel. So you should be fine!

Listen to POS and RUFF, these guys in my mind break the most hilux stuff, (probably in the world) so I would say they have MORE than a good idea what the strengths and weaknesses are, what breaks the parts and why! They both think you will be okay!
