Just a guess, but sounds like over fueling to me. Try backing off the fuel and see how she goes.
Do you have a boost compensator on your fuel pump, or have you wound up the fuel a bit for the turbo ??
Do you get some oil in the pipe from the turbo to the inlet manofild ??

sorry i forgot to say it started this prolem after it went swimming the other day. front passenger corner went in the water. it wasnt over the bonnet though. The glow plug relay squeaked for a little bit after it came out im guessing it was wet.
As far as i know the fuel pump has just been wound up, it was rebuilt about 20 thou ago as it was leaking.
Yes I think i get oil between the turbo and inlet, not much at all though, you can hardly feel it with your finger

Is your air intake behind the passenders side headlight ??
First thing to check is the air cleaner, if it was soaked with water and gunk, you won't get enough air through and end up with too much diesel - over fueling.
Was it running fine before that ??

yes it was running fine beforehand, i have a snorkel and checked the air cleaner yesterday, it had a few bugs in it but no signs of moisture. The motor was running the entire time it was in the water, and the exhaust out of the block is waay higher than the waterline was.

OK, so water has got in and affected something.
Take it step by step eliminating possible causes.
I would start with the snorkel/air cleaner for seals to pipes letting water in.
Perhaps, take out the air cleaner, clean the air box, and see if it still blows smoke under load.
Keep going through the system, let us know what you find.

Dougster- as i said earlier i had a feeling it was the turbo as it was exactly the same symptoms as when it carked it not so long ago so my first place to look was it, i took of the inlet pipe and fired her up, she was spinnin at snails pace!
Ill call the mob that i got this BRAND NEW turbo off and let u know how I go

it would be spinning at snails pace because the fuel is to far advanced that there isnt enuf combustion to get the turbo spinning
