My mrs zook, stock 1300, is burning oil and clogs up the plugs. So how do u tell if its worn rings or valve stem seals? Is there a test? Also is this whats causing it to missfire and backfire? Just want to know how much this is going to cost us, and what options we have, such as GTI motor or 1.6L swap.

You could do a leak down test or compression test to work out if it's rings or valve stem seals.
If you don't have these tools, an easy way is to get someone to follow you and go down a big hill in gear with no throttle on. If there is smoke coming out of the tailpipe then valve stem seals are shot.
If it's rings it'll blow smoke on acelleration.
A rebuild can cost up to $2000 depending on how thorough you are and how much labour is.
If I were you, I'd replace the motor, they come up on Ebay or Outers all the time for as little as $200.
