I have just noticed that I have cooant leaking around #2 which is on the drivers side closest to the radiator.
I was wondering if this is an easy fix or is it a matter of getting a new pair of heads.??
If it comes to it that I need to replace the heads will a pair of heads off a 3.5 carb from about a 78 model fit and what would be the pros and cons??

May just need head gaskets. The heads would need checking for warping and maybe skimming. From 76 the heads had the larger valves, until the bigger ports on the 10 bolt heads.

Trav,Odds are its the head gasket.
Same happened to my 3.9.
I think the heads may get a bit of a downward warp in the middle and it flows from the waterway at the end of the head/block.

So will they fit or not as I'm curious to know and is there any power/performance gain from this at all or not ??
I'm new to Rangies so I just need a bit of help at the moment.

all rover heads are interchangeable. before 76 had smaller valves, later 10 bolt heads (4.0,4.6) had bigger ports and are skimmed to give the compression back after adding composite gaskets.

Well that is different. Never seen that one.
Maybe corroded through due to no coolant in the past.
New heads will fix, but who knows until you pull it out and have a good look.

Well I picked up a set of 3.5 heads from about a 82 I think it was for $100- the pair and this bloke had a few bits around as well so I'll be getting some more stuff off him later.
Thanks for your help.
