g'day guys,
i just want to know what ppl think about K&N HI-FLOW air filters. i have just put 1 in my td42 patrol trying to get a bit better fuel and air flow. i have heard ppl say that these type of filters aren't fine enough and let to much dust/ particules through.
any thoughts?? ideas??
also has anyone use the pre filters which go in the top of your snorkel??
are they a good thing??

I've heard of then called bird's and rock filters, because thats about all they stop from going into your motor.

Get rid of it, i was unfortunate enough to "have" to run one on my GQ from april 07' till this month due to lack of room for an airbox and paper filter, my turbo has visible dust erosion!!.......and it was a brand new compressor wheel.....As we speak i'm moulding an airbox so I can go back to paper.

In actual fact with oilable cotton or sponge filters you often need to leave them very dirty, this makes the holes smaller and actually improves filtration!

I also did some back to back testing on these vs paper a couple of years ago and in actual fact the test car at the time went slower by nearly .2 on 0-100 passes. The post is still on LS1.com but was hated by all who had wasted the money on it lol

Grabbed a K&N round jobbie for GU a few years back. Waste of dollars.
Go paper, and clean them out a few times with an air compressor.

Have a finer filter on other old girl and it be ok for my liking. But K&N's aren't.

don't clean it lol, the more dirt the better they actually filter (this is not my advice but k&n's, sounds like it would be right) , and with that said until the dirt hides the stainless mesh on them there not dirty enough to restrict flow......thats if your crazy enough to keep it lol....

If i remember years back a couple of the worlds largest auto manufacturers voided warranty's on trucks because of engine failure, it seemed that a very large percentage of all failed motors where k&n equipped diesels, no other pattern was seen with cooked motors.

These are selling becuase young guys got sucked into em as power enhancers and the word just kept going until everyone believed it.

The testing i did was on road real time testing not on paper, not in theory not on the dyno. Even on the dyno there was no change in figures when we did an LS1 back to back just to prove their crap.

I said it b4 i'll say it again they really are rubbish!!, ive had mine 9 months and its half eaten my new turbo, now I knew it would happen but put up with it thinking the new airbox is coming...and has been for months, in t he mean time it got frucked.

I'm on holidays now and have actually started modding a box so i can put a paper panel filter back.
