Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Yesterday in a local scrapyard I found an L 2.2 in an 81 2wd pickup. (diesel are hard to find here in the states). Well he said that he would sell me everything with the motor (but not transmission) for $125 (US). I havent bought it yet because i dont know what to look for. What are the goods and bads of this motor and what should i look for when i go back? Is this a good motor to turbo for my 83 pickup? The truck had the 5 speed in it. What trans is in it? Any links to help decode the vin or the model or axle/trans code would be appretiated. thanks

I had one in a 1983 Toyota Hiace LWB van which weighed a tad over 1400kg, and it was painfully sluggish. On a flat road, no wind, 5th gear and pedal to the floor you could just sit on 100 km/h. I wouldnt think a turbo would even liven it up much, a 2LT only puts out 86hp so you are going to be less than that more than likely.
