Can a gq motor be dropped into a a gu without a lot of problems, I am refering toa 4.2 diesel.
What about registration, I think the motors are the same except for the pollution gear on the later. Is it simply a matter of swapping this stuff or does an engineer certificate have to be obtained. thanks

Badger I reckoned it would have been covered, I must be doing something wrong in the search thing as it keeps coming up "no topic" Give us a clue how to best use the search

Did a search for "engine + conversion" in the nissan section and it at least gets you on track a bit.

johno it will fit straight in if its 4.2 gu, some of the plugs may be different. there will not be the hole for the large glow plug in the inlet manifold between #5 n #6 pistons. If its an early gq it will not have the vac pump on the timing cover either, it will be on the back of the alt.
But all parts are interchangable between motors so can be swapped over if you get a good cheap motor.

Nasty, thanks buddy. I have the motor just fingers crossed on the gu ive got my eye on. I thought I might have to swap the manifold and a few bits to keep vic roads happy
