yes.
all G series motors free spin unless they've been built up as a hyrbrid (16V head/8V pistons)

'freespin' ?? ..... is that the same as 'non-interference'?
IE: Valves don't have enough lift to hit pistons at any time even with a broken cam belt/chain.

Yep, dead right

Are you sure steve? I was told my G13B was an interference motor by a mechanic (he probabaly wanted the money for the timing belt change lol)

They definately are non-intefearance

ahh no, G13B is interferance fit. this has been tested many times.
where did you get this info from??

G16's aren't and A's aren't are you talking about the carby G13B or GTi?
Steve.

he has the gti engine , so yes interference.

I know GRPABT1 is GTi, but that wasn't clear in Crackatinny's post.
OK I now know the GTI is interference but the WT sierra motor is a G13B too.
there's lots of WT sierra owners that got all worried that their G13B's were going to smash their valves.

Would that be the GTI's head design and possibly a larger cam shaft causing interference?
If so, would a WT Sierra's G13B's 'no interference' be compromised by using a larger performance cam?
A curly one for Gwagensteve!!

Then they should know the difference between a G13B and a G13BA

Steve.
so i can use a 16v head with my 8v block and pistons?? and only worry if a timing belt breaks??

apparently there are some coolant holes than need to be drilled etc but yes they can be swapped, apparently (I havent't done it)

I am in the process of doing this so I will do a write up once I am done. From what i was told by a shop that has done this before the 8v and 16v blocks are identical, the only difference being the pistons (4 cut outs per piston in the 16v). Im doing the conversion this weekend so guess i'll find out if there are any other differences such as coolant holes.
My block needed a bore and hone so I figured while I was at it I might as well replace the pistons with 16v pistons for ease of mind, knowing that the clearance is there.

im running a 16v block with 8v pistons and a 8v head. no problems with cooling at all
its just been rebuilt.. im just about to buy a complete 16v baleno motor and was tossing up weather to sell my complete running 1600 8v or
just put the 16v head on my rebuilt motor with 8v pistons

From what Ive read 16v has a better balanced crank (4 counter weights vs 8?) too so happier at higher revs.
