Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G,day guys apart from comps what are the options i would like to be able to drive track's around central coast like wattagans. If i need to get some sort of farm vehicle rego is there much involved in that.
any help would be great im looking at buying 1 and need more info, PM me if you dont want people knowing were u drive.

as far as im aware most comp trucks have to be road registered for the comps any way, so most should meet the standards to be registered.

buggys i wouldnt think they would be able to be registered at all.

and if im correct i think there are some comps where the truck doesnt need to be registered, so if thats the type of truck your talking about, i guess im useless.

what sort of truck do you have ??

Guys he's talking about buying a buggy and wants to know where he can drive it.

Unfortunately not many places, legally anyways. No public areas, private parks mostly say no other then in organised comps due to insurance reasons (comp organisers require their own insurance I presume). Buy a farm or become good mates with someone who does is my advice.

from what i've read on here, milbrodale is only leased out to tufftruck and some other comps. and tufftruck has exclusive use of the 4-5 tracks that they run each year. that may not be 100% accurate, but its something along those lines

i asked a similar question over 2 years ago, have a look at the responses in there from buggy owners. things wouldn't have changed 'that' much over the couple of years. but there is plenty more comps if you're willing to travel

Thanks for info fellas from what i know there is at least once a year anyone can drive at milbrodale 20 bucks per person per track and have been to singleton can definetly take buggies there im looking to be able to get to more local tracks on weekends and get into comps at a later stage.
I,m looking at getting a highly modded 40 series and not sure if it can be engineered for normal rego and i dont mind having to trailer it i thought maybe if i got this farm utility rego that a lot of the comp trucks are rego'd under that i would be able to trailer it up to local state forest and drive it.

yeh but this one has the 350 chev, radiators mounted on the full tube rear end and somthing like 18 '' sway away shocks + a heap more ANTT may know the one im thinking of It,s for a mate anyway if we can bring it down to sydney and legally drive offroad only without spending to much more on engineering and rego he's in like flynn. I really need to learn more about rego's on a trailer rig.

Unless your truck(Buggy?) has rego I wouldnt drive it in the watagans.
The same road rules apply in State Forests as they do in the street you live on.
You also pay the same fines, and lose the same amount of points on your license (or your license all together). The consequences are also the same if you are involved in an accident with one of the eleventybillion motocyclists up there (even if it is not your fault...).

There is one thing that differs to just driving down the street though - Generally if you see a cop in syd newy the central coast or anywhere, they could be doing 1 of 1000's of different missions. however if you see a cop up the watagans chances are their sole mission will be to address the issue of unlicenced drivers/ riders, uninsured and unregoed vehicles. The Rangers up there are also on the lookout for the above.

The persons responsible for enforcing the law up there love their jobs and actually get wholesome enjoyment in booking people. Discretion is seldom used as they are out to get a message across.

So in short, no you cant drive an unregoed vehicle in the Watagans

Dont know about that. There is a guy in north Qld that registered his "2 seater Cheeseman Tractor" legitimatly. His "2 seater Cheeseman Tractor" was the origional buggy Cheezy built back in 2005?

Seems a failry simple process. Lets you legally drive in lots of places including state forests with 3 party insurance. He obviously carnt drive his buggy on formed roads (same as a tractor) but lets him drive across roads, state forests, on the verge of formed roads to load the buggy onto a trailer. In areas where the vehicle is a traffic hazzard he has to have a flashing light. Carnt drive it at night etc etc.

Basically he was able to show there is absolutely nothing different between a buggy and a tractor. Same weight, same top speed, same use. Took him a couple of goes to get it regoed but once he got the forms sorted he said it was a really straight forward process.

Definately can be done.

I stand corrected unless things have changed, cause people were in the smae thread referring to Rec Rego for bikes and quads, and ways to get round it using that. Cant find that thread at moment.

He definately sounded very legit. Sent me an email on what to say and what to do if they knock you back (he got knocked back twice...he asked for an explanation etc and even went to his local member bacause the rego dept wouldnt give him an explanation for why they knocked him back) He worked out the reason and registered it fairly straight forward as a tractor. He believed that anybody could easily register a buggy as a tractor because in the way main roads defines a tractor a buggy easily fits.

Never tried to register one but it seems very simple though. From my understanding when you conditionally register something (like a tractor or a quad bike or an off road utility vehicle (like a gator) you just fill out the form and sign it off. Nobody ever comes and inspects. I would imagine a buggy conditionally registered as a tractor would be 100 times more legitimate than 90% of the field in Tuff Truck.

Thanks guys i thought it was a lot more commonly known for example i thought @ TTC all rigs had to be registered and most wouldnt pass a normal rego or blue slip so they rego them as some sort of tractor and thats why they need the escort vehicle front and back of the convoy when driving to the night event outside the venue
sorry if im totally wrong but i was sure there were many people using this type of rego . If not i will look into getting it engineered + rego but cant see that happening, looks like i have to stick with road rego'd rigs.

Everything at tuff truck is regoed as a normal road going vehicle and should legally be able to drive down the main street of any town in Australia.

All vehicles participating in the event shall be legally registered as a motor vehicle in their State, Territory or Country of origin for use on public roads and shall be maintained in a roadworthy condition as required and in accordance with the vehicle regulations applicable in the State or Territory or Country in which the vehicle is registered.



Any vehicle modification required by the vehicle registering authority to have engineering certification shall have such certification completed and acknowledged by the registering authority before presentation of the vehicle for scrutineering. The Chief Scrutineer may require proof of such acknowledgement.

Thanks for that sam i'll speak an engineer about getting it done but i think because im bringing it over the border from QLD to NSW it would have to go over the pits and from what ive heard they dont always agree with engineers.
