Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Need to pull the h55f from my 75 series to do some mods and was wondering if anyone has done it on their own.

Are they particularly heavy? I have a selection of trolly jacks and the missus to assist if need be.

What have others done?

I put mine in and out on my own with trasfer case still on, wasen't that hard i just put a trolley jack under the transfer case and another one under the front of the box and just balanced it as it came down hardest part was getting the front shaft out of the spigot bearing in the crank was stuck in there good. Also take the back engine mounts of and put a jack under the motor and let the motor down at the back. Oh and yes and they are bloody heavy had mine sitting on my chest for awile couldnt breath.

I pulled mine with transfer and PTO still attached, with one small trolley jack, by myself - so it's possible but Probably not the smartest idea. I'd use a plate attached to the jack next time to stabilize the whole shebang. At least make sure the missus is keeping an eye on you with 000 on speed dial

The input shaft can seize or catch in thew spigot bearing which is a PITA as it makes it hard to gently remove the box. It's more a case of it's perfectly still one second and then falling on top of you the next.

I pulled my gearbox and case out by myself with a small trolley jack and the bloody thing rolled off the jack onto my arm.... from that i'd say that it would of been at least 140 kg ??... oh and i then had my arm in a cast :( the doctors could'nt tell if had broken anything..

another way i have done it by myself is to take out the removable panel in the floor above the gearbox and poke an engine crane through the door and just lift the box up and in. it's easier than it sounds.

Thats the way I'd be doing it........I hate dropping boxes out while trying to balance them on trolley jacks.

I did my old 40 series a couple of times like this. Now days i wouldnt like to even try pulling one out with just a couple of jacks and myself.

remove gear lever boot and drivers door.
sling the box and lift it with an engine crane through the floor. you may not need to remove the door?? having done gearbox's a few times now, this is the only way i will do it. very controlled and it can't fall.door and boot only takes 10 min to remove.
