4JB1T Rear Mail Oil Seal

Folks,

After a total engine rebuild not 10,000K ago, I have had my truck back in 2 times under warranty for leaking rear main oil seal.

First time the mechanic assumed they nicked it when it went in. The second time, they used a supposedly non genuine product and assumed that it was not tight enough. A 1000K later it is leaking again.

They claim that there is no wear on the drive shaft... so....

Are 4JB1T's inherranty leaky or even after a $6K rebuild, should I expect leaking rear mains?

Maybe I should put a Landrover badge on it so I can justify the oil stains on the driveway.

these engines are not prone to leaking oil but as a holden mechanic i can tell you that there a special tool to remove and replace the rear main seal on this engine and without using it it would be near impossible to fit it without damaging it
i have seen first hand what damage can be done without using the holden special tool

O/K An update.

It appears that the turbo, on low revs (idle and up to pribably 1200RPM) is pupming pressure back into the air inlet.

Apparently this pressure is being picked up by the engine breather that connects from the rocker cover to the air inlet and is supplying poitive pressue into the crank case and thus pushing oil out the main oil seal.

Put your hand over the snorkel at idle and you can fill positive pressure.

Stay tuned for the next installment as to how an rodeo and destroy my bank balance.
Cheers
