Howdy to all those lux drivers.
Iv got a zook that im looking to put lux diffs under, had a look through the first 10 pages or so of the search results i got and the bible, so if thers a link or this has been discused b4 just let me know. The questions i have are.

What are the differences between the axles on differant model hilux's pre 2000'ish (size, ratio's, stud pattern, brake assy, steering paticlarly the mounts on the axle, differant metals/treatments [strength], spline input size/shape)?

Do diesel lux diffs have different ratio's to petrol?

Im possibly going to put a set of air lockers into these baby's and at the very least re-seal em. is there a company who sells a re-seal/reconditioning kit for the diff and brake's?

How long and what tools are required to install air lockers into both axles, im sure thers a single source of info on this one so if you can point me in the right direction would be great.

I know iv thrown a lot out there but if ya have an answer to anything would be great to hear it! cheers guy's :D

When you install an air locker in a diff, it must be set up correctly to avoid gear wear, not easy if you don't know what you are doing.

There is coil and leaf sprung types with different mounting brackets.

I think the change-over in models in 88 saw physically bigger stuff in the later.

Ifs model rear diffs are wider mid 97 and on. From mid 89 to mid 97 the had the larger rear brakes than before 89 they had smaler brakes fairly sure they were same width. All take the same airlocker rd23 which is now the rd132 just in the early diffs to install the airlocker you need the newer style bearings only like 30 bucks for 2 from the bearing shop. Ratios are from 3.7 up to 5.29 also some more info here http://toyota.off-road.com/toyota/artic ... ?id=274535

Thanx guy's for the info so far! yea that link will come in handy whem its time to put wheel's on and gear the whole thing.
Went to the local 4wd wreckers and they quoted me $1100 PER DIFF! Now im not that experianced with buying car parts (prob why he's quoting $1100) but im thinking thats preety steep. the company im getting the conversion done with reckons he might have a set in storage that would sell for $500 each.
Has anyone brought much stuff from the wreckers, what would be a reasonable price for a set of diffs? (im taking consideration that im in townsville and not brisi or syd)

Was at a swap the other weekend 600 neg for F&R hilux diffs 99% sure they were 4.3 ratio so 1100 a diff is Fu :bad-words: off expensive might pay to keep a look out on here and other forums and local paper and you should get some cheaper.
