If you MUST run a CD carby and space is an issue then a Stromberg is significantly smaller.
Personally I just can't imagine why you would bother, but there you go.....

OK
once-a-pon-a-time i used to live in NZ and i also had a trials zook with an SU
use a 1 1.2 inch SU, mine had a piece of mini (BMC) manifold welded to a cut-down zook one. it ran fine and i do mean fine.
if i was to do it again i would use EFI ( a lot less problems in the long run)
if you "cut " the side out of the manifold it will fit under a 1L bonnet.
i also had a friend that made an adaptor that bolted to the carby bolts and had an "elbow" that the SU bolted to, he use a cast steel elbow (cheap-for him) and cut out the mounting surfaces with a Plasma cutter. this also woked well nut bonnet clearence was a problem.
the hardest thig is tuning the needle for the correct fuel mixture.
both of us used the "old-style" SU's, you may have better luck using an HIF 1 3/4 SU off a Jag. these are quite compact, compared to the "old-style".
again i don't think it's worth the effort. a standard carb is juat as good and a hole-lot less pissing about. that or EFI.
