I've heard about some AWESOME low mount winch using twin motor setup on one of the trucks from rockhampton. Heard it was insanely fast.

Anyone got footage?

took a lot of video from the wkend...will need to sort through it...it was a 75 series cruiser from memory....if someone can elaborate on it ill see if i have any footage.

Yes, it was the 75 series , (Billy Geddes). They have done some fantastic work on the Low Mount to make it extremely competitive now.

can the 75 be elaborated further. i remember seeing it and someone commented it was lowmount.....however there were a few 75's. got colours etc?

The guys from Rockhampton have been playing with the Low Mounts and have fiddled around with the internals to get them to winch faster. They found they needed more speed and got one of my adapters to add the 2nd motor.
Apparently from feedback I got, their line speeds really quick, which was an eye opener to some spectators I heard from.
They're still doing some R&D on it, but it's looking good for the Low Mount owners.
Car 20 - Billy Geddes / Phil Benson Toyota 75 Series 349 used it at the comp.

How does this compare to the twin motor highmount with regards to costing, reliability ect???

Costing - I don't know as yet. Still testing and fine tuning...

Reliability - It worked , with extremely positive feedback in that how quick it was.

There's nothing more I can say than what I already have, but it sounds pretty good.

Yes, you'd have to mid mount it..

But as long as it works and is faster than what's out there now, I don't think it would be an issue of how wide it is.... But, of course, you must have somewhere to mid mount it.

Personally, I think this project is pretty god damn good.

Very good to see people trying different things and thinking out side of the square...

sounds like a pretty sweet setup...would love to have it on the zook....the slomount would love an upgrade, mid mounting might be an issue tho!!

Billy here , you dont have to mid mount and for round one we had it on the front but we think it will work better and be safer mid mounted. We first tryed the geared up winch at tamworth round3 07 without the second motor and found we had speed but not enough power.I like wazza`s set up because the direct couple of the motors is as efficent as you can get and we need all the horsepower we can .There will be more local trucks running low mounts at round 2 and we should have air spool sorted by then. We are very happy with the performance and it came about by a bunch of mates throwing ideas around.I`m looking forward to watching rusty go this year at rocky!

Wazza, what types of mods can be done to these? Obviously you can use your twin motor adaptor, but what else?

They're modified to go faster and carry more rope.

I haven't asked the guys exactly what they do and I don't want to know. ( It's their thing).

I remember seeing this winch in action in its early stages of development last year at XWC r3 Tamworth. That was before the twin motor setup. Line speed was insane! Now with the 2nd morot and more power Im keen to see more.

I did find this video on You Tube and assume its from XWC r1 LCMP 2 weekends ago? You can get a small idea of how quick this thing really is!

This would be the biggest thing to hit the 4wd market since the 12v compressor. There are huge $$ to be made by someone who can make a good affordable twin motor adaptor for lowmount winches. It would be even better if motors were one on top of the other, something like gigglepin setup, so they easily fit most bullbars with minimal modification req'd.

This goes way beyond just the comp 4x4 market. Anyone who uses a winch wants it to go faster.

It sure will change comps once this setup kicks in. It's great to see that the Low Mount winches can be made competitive. Well done to the guys!

Not many people do that and I've told the guys to register their idea if anything.

Believe me, ppl are quick out there to copy, but it's a small world and you find out very, very quickly... and unfortunately ppl who come up with new ides have to be one step ahead and patent...

If I had a doller for every low mount that was pulled apart at the moment looking to be geared up I`d be able to build a new truck from scratch! This type of (get someone`s new idea and rip it off ) will always happen. It has happend in our area and our group dosen`t put up with it.Like I`ve said before the credit for this winch belongs to a crew/ team of mates,SPECIAL CREDIT TO RUSSELL MASON ARB ROCKY,and If people want to go down this road with a low mount they SHOULD CONTACT HIM. Thanks to the people competitors and public that have been interested in our work and any of us will help if we can.This idea will be ripped of we know because it works so well but most people that matter know how it started and anyone who claims they had this idea will get an arse replacment. Remember the same winch failed at the start and you can imagine the crap that was slung for turning up to a winch challenge with a low mount especially when it didn`t work right.keep thinking OUTSIDE the square people !!!

Its great to see you guys doing well with this setup!!! I should have the first pair of adapter plates ready to be machined for our 3motor hybrid low/high mount in the next few days - cant wait!! so if all goes well the first 2 production models will be ready for NATA approved testing in hopefully under 6 weeks (thats if i get the hilux ready for TT in time )

I agree with what you said wilba. It's a shame when someone develops a groulse product after putting in countless hours and thought/Know how, not to mention dollars spent in trial and error, testing, manufacturing, etc.

Sadly though it's a reality that someone will rip off the idea and mass produce it. It may as well be you and your mates who profit from it. Get the idea patented and start developing it as you are on an absolute winner there.

There's a massive market there and heaps of money to be made from it. It goes way beyond competition too. There's thousands of lowmounts of there on everything from beasts to tourers to toorak tractors. It's a global market too. And with so many cheap lowmounts around this adaption would be very affordable and appealing to the average joe.

I'm not trying to steal your idea, i want to buy one off you once you start producing them. Before the Chinese start selling em on ebay.

I totally agree with you GQ Bear. One thing I might add though, is that yes, someone will copy the idea and make it for half the price in a factory in china or somewhere similar, but I doubt they will be able to make one strong enough to hold up to our standards (4x4 w/e warrior/comp community) As per the cheap Ebay/Aldi winches they wont have the longevity to hold up in the tough conditions we put them through. Good on you guys for thinking outside the square. VERY interested to see the tripple motor hybrid in action. Sounds interesting.
