Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I am trying to find out why I am only able to use 65 litres from my 90 litre tank at the moment
It all points to a blocked strainer in the tank caused by a dose of water and algae
but does any one know what the pickup strainer and surrounds looks like?...any photos? that would confirm my theory
or has anyone experienced similar problems and found another cause

What happens after 65 litres, it just stops running? Definitely sounds like a blockage there somewhere.

Yep just dies, runs out of fuel
I only just made it to the servo yesterday with it coughing and spluttering and I could only fit 65 litres in it ....filled it and it runs fine
iit has a new fuel filter and I have checked the screen on the input to the lift pump, thoroughly cleaned the water trap and blown out the lines with compressed air
the only thing I can't see properly is the pick up screeen in the tank
but from what I can see it may be my problem

I've currently got the same problem with my 12H-T and was thinking it was the filter in the tank. Mine gets down to quater of a tank and dies. Even sucks air into the system from somewhere sometimes. I also thought it may be a crack in the fuel pickup in the tank because of the air....haven't figured it out for sure yet. It's easier to keep the tank above half untill I find time. Then I might drop the bung in the tank and look through the sender hole with a torch and see if I can see anything...

These problems sound like an issue with fuel pickup.

I have come across several tanks where the pickup was not at the very bottom of the tank, and as a result, they would still have 20+lts sloshing around that could not be used.

either bending the pickup to the bottom of the tank, or extending it fixed the problems.

Sometimes there is a plastic mesh strainer on the end that can cause issues as well.

Best bet, clean tank area where the pickup is located, remove, inspect, measure, modify and test.



Trains

The tank breather may also be blocked causing fuel starvation.

Check the lines and breather filter behind the r/h panel in the cargo area for any blockages

There is a small length of rubber fuel hose between the tank and the fuel line that might be cracked. Hard to get at in a wagon as it joins right near the tank.

In a wagon, the tank must be removed to get at the fuel pickup. You can access the fuel gauge sender from inside the wagon, but not the pickup. You can 'just' see the fuel pickup with a torch through the sender hole looking towards the right side wheel arch.



The return line goes to the same point in the tank as the pick up. For a bit of trouble shooting and if you are stuck in the bush, you could swap the supply and return fuel lines over. the risk is that it is an open line direct to the lift pump so if the in tank filter is the problem because it is blocked with stuff, then you risk sucking up the same stuff into the lift pump.
