Outer Limits 4x4 Board

im going to construct a new torque rod for the front of my hilux, the plan is to change the front mounting position so it mounts on the chassis cross member next to the spring mount.
should i use hiems or go with a poly bushing ??
also does vertical seperation come into play here as it would with a linked setup. becuase the torque rod would just about sit flat in normal driving conditions.

Spaz if you move the front mounting position forward to the chassis cross member it will efect your steering under bracking, like when there is no trouqe rod there as it is not pivoting from the same point as the steering arm.That is its main porpose to stop the steering pulling under bracking not to stop diff rap.

You would be better to reweld the chassis up, plate it and remount from the same possition, using a heim or jonny joint in the top end to alow the arm to twist with out bind.This will eliminate your problem while keeping your truck driveable.

The only problem is once you alow the trouqe rod to move freely the next thing to bind up is the steering arm were it meets the J arm. Then you will find that after a while you will stress the J arm from it binding on full articulation and you will snap it just behind the ball.

yep i get what you mean, looks like my only option is to stop dicking around and get me some histeer. but for now ill just put the stock torque rod mounting back in.

If you clamp your spring packs and get a tail shaft spacer the tail shft should be fine to. I use a standard lenght slip joint in my front sharft.

hey mate. Sorry to post this late. How did that go? the one you built.. have you heard about Moog? I was about to buy torque rod online but someone told me about the Moog brand. So now I was looking for someone who could give me ideas about how is it like to have a Moog torque rod bushing for a brand. Thanks!
