Whats your Crawl Ratio for your rig?? Post it up!

Gidday All,

I spent about an hour reading everything I could on Crawl ratio, here on outers and it seems very much a wide scope of what people are running.

Its seems the difference between are quite a bit.

EG, Auto and man, Winch or Rocks, Motor size/Torque.

Also read in some threads that the higher the ratio in diff places the stress back in the diffs and away from the potential of breaking gear sets. EG, this set up (S1 gears & 5.1diff) would be better than (S3 gears & 4.3 diffs) Any thoughts on this one??

Can you please post the following:

1/ 4, 6, 8 cylinders, or torque?

2/ Auto or Man

3/ Tyer Size

4/ Trans case gears

5/ Diff ratio's

6/ What you use it for? Touring, Winch events, Rockcrawling

7/ RPM @ 100klms in high range, (May not be applicable to some)

8/ Anything else you think is relevent. Too low? Too High? Just right? Too much RPm at 100k's, etc.

All the best!

Hope this comes up with some interesting reading for all when setting up your rig.

1/ 3.0V6

2/ Man

3/ 285/75R16 (approx. 32.8x11.2-16)

4/ 2.85 (aftermarket)

5/ 4.875

6/ Touring mainly, playing if I get the chance - but I live in Adelaide.

7/ 2700ish (from memory...)

8/ 55:1 overall 1st low. Would prefer lower rpm at cruising, but I don't think the engine would cope. Offroad, crawling is good for a tourer, but it's not a comp vehicle. But low range 5th is also annoyingly low, so there's no pleasing some people. :D

1: 4 cyl diesel, 250Nm+ at idle, 500Nm at 2000rpm.

2: Manual 5sp

3: 225/75R16 (29" I think)

4: 3.321 low. 1:1 high.

5: 3.54 diffs

6: Used for offroad touring, work and access to remote areas

7: 2000rpm @ 100km/h

8: With a 5.8:1 first gear low ratio it can idle almost anywhere in high range. It can spin all four on gravel in 3rd high up to 80km/h. Spins wheels on tarmac in second high and is fulltime 4wd.

1/ 3 cylinder, about 100Nm

2/ Manual

3/ 34" Swamper

4/ 6.4

5/ 5.12

6/ Track driving.

7/ 4300

8/ Spot on.

Crawl is about 127:1 Gearing is very nice for my application - 5th is very usable on road. Low range is only good for about 20km/h but high range is low enough that it's not a problem for my application.

Steve.
