i just got a fj 40 soft top build date 4/78 it is at my old mans place at the moment and i have not seen it ,i only have on concern and that is it only has one id plate rivited to the fire wall which has fj40and then a whole lot of numbers after it,that number is on the old rego sticker, last reg in 06 but there is no plate with frame and engine numbers that my dad can see would or should a car as old as this have any more plates?

vin number should be on the outside of the drivers side front frame rail.. not sure if thats where they are on that year but worth a shot.

also not sure where you'd fine the engine number on a 2f.

There is another plate riveted to the inside of the drivers front inner guard. Its a bit hard to find because its under or behind the battery. Seek and ye shall find......unless its fallen off of course. ;)

alll you need is a chassis number and engine number, you dont need to have compliance plates afixed to the car for registration purposes.

You should find the engine number on the block between the distributor and the firewall on the flat section of the casting. Thats where it is on all of mine..

and don't forget to post up some pics
