4.4 inlet manifold problems

Hi all,
I have taken the 500 Holley 2 barrell off my 4.4 and am replacing it with a Quadrajet that I had in the shed. Problem is I'm having big trouble trying to get the inlet manifold to seal.
The 2 barrell manifold sealed well on this motor and the 4barrell one seemed to seal well on the other motor, it may not have because the other motor only ran gas.
Anyone have any brilliant suggestions

what sort of trouble. Has the manifold or the heads/ block been skimmed at all?

The inlet manifold is sucking air and I don't seem to be able to seal it.
It is a P76 manifold that has had a 4 barrel adapter welded on in place of the standard carburettor mount.
I think maybe the heads/manifold have been shaved down because the manifold seems to sit lower in the valley. But judging by the marks on the gaskets it should be sealing.

If the manifold only has been shaved it wil sit lower in the valley, and if the heads have been shaved only the manfold will sit high in the valley. Both needed to have been shaved to compensate. The problem I think you might have is when the manifold was welded, being aluminium, it has warped. Usually the best thing to do when welding an aluminium manifold is do it while it is bolted to your block and heads that way it requires less machining if any. Have you tried placing two maniflod gaskets on each side. The only thing you have to be careful of is place some high temp sealant between the manifold and both gaskets. If al else fails, I'm sure someone on here or fleebay will have a four barrel inlet manifold for a 4.4.
