Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hi all

i own a patrol and want to get some black rims. i like the standard rims and have seen a few patrols that appear to have standard black rims. i can only assume they are powder coated or painted.
Has anyone done this if so what cost? how well do they keep their paint/powder coat?

I've been told by a mate who got them done that its about 40 bucks per wheel, (not sure if thats a good price or not, sounds good to me tho), i'm about to get my beadlocks done at the same place.

yea mate in Melb does em for same price.

cool. they look awsome. will have to get tyres taken off and find the time to drop in. shame a tyre place wont do it all

Do powder coated wheels tend to chip? I read yonks ago that some prefer to paint their wheels so that touch ups can be adressed more readily.

Any thoughts?

Powdercoat does tend to get chipped and corrosion/rust can work its way under the coating. Powdercoat can be touched up with acrylic paint though.
Personally, I'd prefer to paint my rims as once they are powdercoated if you want to change the colour or they are really scratched you can't re-powdercoat.

they probably would arrange it all, but would rob you blind doing it

can of black spray paint will do the same job

Or you can buy some new ones at about $65-70.00 and sell you old ones for $40.00 each

how well do they come up painted? johno, what new ones are you referring to? factory rims or after market

I sell the King Rims and are $69.00 for black or white. Powder coated from factory. You could get similar prices elsewhere if you ask around.

Powder coating 2nd hand rims that already have some chips in them doesn't work out very good. You would be better of using a rattle gun. But it wont look as good as new rims. Depends on how fussy you are to how happy you'll be with them.

You can also buy brand new rims unpainted so you can then get them powder coated to any colour you wish. I'm getting some of these in to weld on some beadlocks, then get them zinc dipped and powder coated.

i went to a metal working place and got my rims sandblasted and gal dipped then picked them up and took them to a powder coater all up 140. i get them gal then they dnt rust

Also wash off in about the same amount of time it took to put on.

No mate if there sandbasted and etched before there powder coated it's a lot better finish then 2 pack, air dry enamel, acrylic and even factory powder coat which is usually cheap shit with no etch.

The difference between chiping powder coat (delaminating) and good quality powder coat is the etch which 90% of production wheels don't have. That is why they chip and rust after a couple of years.
