i went to the local steel supplier / merchant to pick up some materials so i can try t make a new rear tyre carrier.

whilst i can easily pick up some 50 X 50mm shs, i found it hard to get the next size up. im chasing the size that a tow bar that s a "50mm hitch receiver" can take

I'm guessing its something like 54mm shs with 4mm wall. The local mob say the next size up is 60mm.

Trailer joint?

54mm shs with a 4mm wall will still only have an id of 46mm. 60mm will have an id of 52mm which would be pretty close. I wouldnt think a mm of clearance on each side of the hitch is too bad a thing?

not sure... but I'm takin a wild guess here that that size is exclusive to hayman reece or just not available to the public :?:

ahh yes, correct. well whatever the outside dimension as long as the inside is 50mm....thats what i chasing.

Well in that case it would be 60mm with a 5mm wall thickness, but im sure the steel place said that you can't get that.

65mm x 6mm wall. I use it when I intergrate a towbar into my rear bars. SHS only goes from 50mm to 65mm. The towbars are a good fit once powdercoated as you need to also take into consideration the seam that is on the inside.

They have it made for them in a chinese mill. My Bro used to laser cut the towbar materials and hitch peices on his 3D pipe cutter and flatbed lasers, but they took that overseas recently too.

Stu why dont you ask. I have 64x64x6 SHS not 65x65X6 the hayman reece material it has a ground inner seam, I got 2 - 3m left as it is what i use for my square shafts.

And i also have the 50x50x4 SHS

i remember seeing pics of th booty fab SHS driveshafts with th "slip" coming from the shafts slotting together.

Bubs bestest buddy can grab about half a foot of the 64 x 64 x 6mm off you.

im gonna try and make something myself for a change......i can't help it if i don't have something to work on id go stir crazy.

i finished the stainless steel snorkel for the TJ...(well i have to polish the thing and pick up a air ram for it, ill do that next Saturday)

The caster brackets from the states are going to arrive some time this week too.
