I don't have a lot of details, but from what I've been told, his rear diff has died big time, and the enquiries he's made so far would indicate that he could be lucky to come out around $500, and more likely up to $1000 to fix it.
He doesn't have that kind of money.
Any ideas for the cheapest options to replace a diff ?
He's pretty darned handy in/under/and around a vehicle, so can probably do a fair bit himself.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Depends whats wrong with it. Can't understand why it would cost that much, I've seen complete drum-to-drum assemblies going on eBay for $50. And if he can swap it in himself (pretty basic, even I could do that) he's laughing.
