The wife and my self are thinking of buying a Santa Fe and are wondering
what to look for and if they do have any major problems what are they. It will not be intended for off road as the patrol is used for that. As well as what is the best size motor to get, for power and economy.
Any feed back would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Joe

We have a six month old SLX diesel. Best car i have had (and i've had a few!!)
The 2.2 turbo Diesel has got HEAPS of grunt and really gets up and boogies!!
We bought the 7 seat option and automatic, but internally has plenty of room for a "SUV". Seperate rear air conditioner, seats fold up well
Would i change anything??.....probably not. Has every thing. Good value for money.
Gets plenty of wraps when put up against the Xtrail, Captiva etc
You wont be disappointed!!

good one mate! was looking at a 2.7 petrol but by the sounds of it the diesel gets up and goes. Whats the fuel economy like?

Averages between 9-10L/100kms. My wife tows alittle enclosed trailer around for her work and doesn't seem to really change the economy much. I've heard the petrols are VERY thirsty, but i haven't had first hand experience with them.

My mate worked in a Hyundai dealership (since left) and said the diesels are the only way to go with these.

I have recently become an owner of a Santafe and am still in awe as to what this vehicle does with a small by normal standards 2.2 diesel. The fuel consumption is outstanding as well, a 70 ltr tank will get you in excess of 800k around town and 1000k on a long trip using the cruise control. looks good drives particularly well is bloody comfortable and
she whom needs to be obeyed likes it as well, it is the 7 seater even thoughI doubt if the rear seats will ever be used other than to carry groceries and the dog

The Kia Sorento is another cousin of the Hyundai. Kia Australia have gone to the effort of modifying the suspension settings and steering ratio for a bit better ride and driving experience, although it does lose out on 7 seat capacity.

Not just chipping in because of perceived "brand alliance", but because it is a slightly different take on the same mechanical base and may/should also fall into your field of view.
