just wondering what coils to get ? i have 80 series front shocks and long travel rears the shocks are ome. I want to make sure the springs dont fall out on full extension i carry a 35 on rear and usual recovery gear any advice would be great cheers

You would need to give some idea of shock length or what lift it currently runs....

i have not put in the new shocks yet but i understand you need to put a 1in spacer under the shock tower on the front so the shocks do not bottom out the shock lengths are front 380mm closed and 615mm open the rear shocks are 430mm closed and 720mm open.

instead of choosing springs to suit your existing (mismatched) shocks, why not decide what height you need, what sort of load you intend to carry and choose your springs. Then see if your existing shocks are suitable.

Your rear shocks are good for a 4" lift.
I reckon your fronts would need a 2" spacer to be the correct length. Easier to just get the right shocks to start with and they will also be valved correctly for your vehicle.

i understand what you are saying cossie but i believe it is a fairly common to put in 80 series shocks into the front of a gq to get extra travel i would like the 4b to sit at about 3in like i said i carry a 35 on rear of 4b and usual recovery gear leys say 20-30 kg and one passanger normaly so i would like to get it to sit at about 3in lift but utilise the shock lengths with out springs dropping out.

I'm pretty sure your front coils will drop out with those shocks in. (I assume you're not running swaybars?)
Why not run OME L series shocks on the front (the ones designed for a Patrol) with OME 3" springs?

Theres a lot more to choosing springs and shocks than shock lengths and claimed lift height. Choose a package that has been designed for your vehicle and you will benefit on road and off.

Look carefully at spring rates too. Crazy heavy duty ones will be very uncomfortable on road and shithouse off road.

FWIW I run the OME Long series shocks and 4" OME springs, I couldn't be happier with it, rides really nicely and articulates very well. I had Dobinsons before and when I checked the spring rates the dobinsons were 319lb/ft and the OME were around 250. I know which ones ride better!
