whats going on

I came back from doing a ski season in america after 3 months today, in which my rangie wasn't driven. I took her out for a spin today and the auto (zf) would't go into 3 or overdrive, it just revved in second. this caused the motor to overheat and so i had to limp home. It then started workin for about the last 5 minutes of a 40 min round trip. Do ya reckon this was just a once off thing that i should ingnore or does something need a little TLC. hoping to take her to big river on the weekend to scratch my 4WD itch ive had for the past 3 months

How did the engine overheat???

Did you have it reving hard????

its rare a Rover V8 will overheat on a 23 deg day....

i had to ley it cool down during the trip twice cause it was close to the red, yeah it was revving harder than usual, alway about 3g, but i would't have thought thid would over heat it. it does however have thermo fans, wich might not displace as much air
?

had another look at it today and saw that the cable that goes from where the accel cable is on the throttle body to the transmission (kick down maybe) doesn't spring back like its supposed to, instead it is just fully slack. does anyone have any ideas cause i wanted to take it out tomorrow

yeah thats stuck fully pulled out, and i can't free it. i tried tracing it but i lose it somewher in the transmission, and i don't think its the top part

These have been known to sieze, can you pull on it or is it stuck fully out, if so will have to be replaced

yeah its fully out, so if it needs to be replaced, that sounds like a big job

It's not too big a job and from memory you have to pull the auto pan off to change the cable which isn't a bad idea anyway as you can change the filter and oil at the same time.

Once the cable is fitted however you really need to be able to adjust it correctly as I was told when I did mine that the cable adjustment is paramount due to it being the only real link between the throttle settings and the auto. Irecall I was told that if I got it wrong, I could destroy the gearbox within 5 kilometres :shock: I still did it myself and had no problems :cool:

thanks for the speedy responses guys, looks like shes not comming today, awel. i will have to wait till i get my cast off to do this job
