Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi All,

Just thought I'd post some details of a few little things I sort of have going on the side at the moment.


I purchased an an 88 WT soft top from this very board, drove it home last Friday.

Planned Mods are:
OME rears all round SPUA with extended shackles
OME N76 Shocks
2 Inch body lift
6:1 tcase gears
Welded rear, Detroit front
34X10.5 LTB swampers
Internal Beadlocks
Full cage

Best part is that I need to have it trip ready by the labour day weekend.

So I wonder if the credit card will get a flogging this month

So what has made you decide that you would prefer a spua setup in stead of your current spoa?
Is it better or something?

intrested to know how the LTB's go have u got a price on them yet?
ur gunna break chit i can see it

look foward to reading about it and seeing it but would it be better have locker rear and weld front

Next time

I should have mentioned in my first post that I've purchased everything except 6:1 which will be next week so its just a case of putting it all together in time.

The work I have done so far is:
~ Picked up the car last Friday
~ Spent Saturday stripping the interior out as well as trying to clean some of the mud out of it (It was filthy)
~ It was running like a pig so I have swapped over my rebuilt carby and all is sweet, will service it b4 taking it out though.
~ Un-picked the spot welds attaching the WT flares and sills (rust traps)
~ Cut off the rear 1/4's and removed the back bumper
~ Mounted some tail lights in the tail gate
~ Pulled out the back diff/axles and threw in some new wheel bearings and the welded centre.
~ Fitted an extended main line as well as the rear OME's and some temporary shocks (I am running the shocks from my tin top as I plan to to a lot more work to the rear end after two weekend away I have coming up.
~ All the materials for my shackles are ready to go just have to drill and fit them.
~ Fitted the detroit to the front diff today hopefully put in the centre next week.

Is it beter hmmm............. dont think I will answer that one, lets just say I want something low and stable and leave it at that.

The body lift is now in.

The rear springs were sitting really high and when I crossed it up there wasn't all that much flex so I have taken another leaf out of each rear, now its sweet.

Shackles are done, tcase long arm looks a touch stronger now (pic).

Tomorrow i'll be removing the front end in prep for the chassis extension (Saturday)

I'm going to buy some body prep stuff tomorrow and possibly paint for the spray job.

Wheels are currently off getting flipped and offset a little more.

Steve .. brace the short arm as well .. A beefed up my long side arm some time ago (It was almost broken in half) but I twisted the short side arm recently as well .. I will be beefing up the new one I get from Bazooka before it goes in .. (causes all sorts of driveshaft vibes etc and allowd the case to hit the floor)

I have already busted a few short arm mounts so I am going to do something to that side as well.

I believe they retail for $395, I got them for a fraction less.

make sure you thouroughly clean out the fuel system, or ya good carb will die fast.

Already done it once, will be giveing it anopther flush with some new filters.

Today/tonight's update:

Purchased some body prep stuff today,primer, sand paper e.t.c. so when I got home I got stock into the panels, still need to get the dodgy stickers off one door and the bikini bar though.

Spent the evening grinding the brake line mounts, bump stops and shock mounts of the front of the chassis in preparation for extension being performed tomorrow (Well about 9 hours from now)

Filled up the pump pack with degreaser and went through the whole undercarriage trying to get some of the dirt out.

Here is a shot of an original shock next to one of my old front ranchos (Note the dent) next to an N76.

Very soft and loooong enough for what I want.

Pity about the colour.

Note - Next to a 29inch

is the "suzuki" bit on the grill setup so that when ya roll it everyone can tell what kinda rig ya drive??

Latest Update

Took the car to Steve G's (Club President) yesterday and after about 10 hours (Most of them spent grinding), it rolled out of the shed with an extended chassis & shock mounts.

As I have a spare WT chassis I spent the time unpicking the welds for the bump stops, brake line mounts & spring hangers so they could come off clean and go onto the rolling chassis, this saved a lot of time on the day as I rolled up with basically everything removed off the chassis rails.

The drivers side front rail and bumper support on the chassis I am using had been damaged in a prang and the repair work was pretty ordinary so rather than leave the crossmember in and extend with an aditional crosss member (Like Gregs) It was decided that we would cclean off the original crossmember and mount the extension, the result is a much less cluttered front end, you cannot even tell the vehicle has ever been pranged (Well nearly ) rather than clutter up the un cl;uttered front end I have decided to for the moment forego a steering stabiliser and adress that at a later date.

Shock mounts were also fabbed up and the front assembly slung under. The pics really show what I mean, big thanks again to Steve & Mock (LJEXTREME) for all the help.

Also brought some paint today, going to stay red but more of a primary type "Signal Red"

nice to see it coming together. we will have almost identical rigs by the time we finish i have 34 ltb's on order and am waiting for my r.u.f. gear and new shock mounts to arrive will be good to see how 2 almost the same cars will run!!
