Feroza Viscous Clutch Replacement?

Has anyone replaced their viscous clutch for the cooling fan?
Mine wont disengage till i rev the nuts off it but then it kicks back in well enough when she gets warm.
I am looking into a radiator replacement and want to sort out the viscous hub at the same time.
Does anyone know where to get a new one from?
I Have heard of people servicing toyota ones bet not too sure on how the feroza one will go with a rebuild.

Haven't done it and mines long gone but I know that Toyota do sell the silicone fluid required for refills of their units.
Can't see any reason why you shouldn't try to do your own.

Yeah i will be having a play with it before i scrap it for sure. Just wondered if they are still available anywhere in case i destroy it.

you guys ever consider using silicon shock fluid in those? it comes in weights up to 10,000

I reckon you could still get one genuine if you REALLY need a replacement.
Or else there are wreckers I suppose.
All else fails, you could use a thermo fan setup, although not as good as stock cooling unles done perfect.

They will always be spinning with the engine- are you sure it's actually faulty?
Get rid of it for an electric fan if you're good at DIY stuff. The power difference is roughly the same increase as fitting extractors (using a calibrated buttometer
)

Different silicone properties - the stuff in a viscous fan changes it viscosity significantly with changes in temperature - which is what makes it work...
Shocks on the other hand, as I understand it try to maintain constant viscosity with temperature to provide consistent damper operation.
Could be wrong.

I had it rebuilt under warranty a year or so ago but it never really functioned as it is supposed to. I have a fealing there could even be too much silicon in there i guess.
Well it looks like the radiator will be out for a few days getting re built as the only place i found that can supply an original eqipment Denso radiator wants $580 for it
At least i will have time to play with the fan clutch

Thats' expensive IMO - 18 mths ago I had mine changed from 2 row to 3 row and its cost $320 ( unfitted ).
Radiator bloke originally couldn't find a listing for a 3 row core, but did some research and bingo.

It all depends on the year model Feroza as well. There are at least three different radiators made to fit Ferozas.
Do a search as I posted the dramas I had trying to buy a new one. The local radiator shop could get in a Denso one for a reasonable price- but I got it home and there was no way it would fit my '92 F300. Ended up buying genuine from Daihatsu which was ordered from Japan.

Actually mine was recored only - not a new radiator....... should have said that
New is good but with a re-core you know its going to fit

Yeah mate,
My rocky (which still hasnt sold
) was overheating (turned out to just be a faulty thermo
) but I looked into the viscous. Toyota quoted me something ridiculous like $580 as well so it's not a cheap process...

My top tank had been soldered a year or two prior- so it wasn't worth me just doing the recore.

Mighty Mouse i was just looking at the thread on you SPAL fan conversion, How did that end up going and which model 16" fan did you end up purchasing?
The new viscous hub is $505
I found a new Denso radiator for $457

FROZY, so far its gone fine, its a 2300CFM push unit ( lack of room behind radiator ) and its managed on a 30 degree day in the bush ( low speed stuff.... )
Until it gets by on a 40 degree day, I won't call it perfect.
If your thinking electric, and have the space go for a pull fan with a proper shroud - do a half assed job and your going to be sorry.
And as a complete aside, I'm far from convinced about the Feroza water pump, the impeller design and manufacture is terrible and the clearances huge.
I've taken one apart, which requires the pump rotor to be machined off ( not designed to be disassembled ), and have sourced an identical mechanical seal, as disassembly destroys the original.
Will machine up a pump impeller that flows and see how it goes.
I'm really beginning to think that the Ferozas tendency to detonation is caused by poor cylinder head cooling - and the only thing i haven't played with is the water pump.....

Yes, the detonation on mine was markedly worse if the water temp was up.
Is your pump genuine? I bought an "off the shelf" $45 replacement pump for my wife's old Excel a few years ago, anyway it was VERY poor quality compared to the factory original. The impellor design was even totally different and decidedly dodgy - it would have had huge clearances.

Yes its genuine and checked it against other Applause and Feroza pumps I have.
BTW the Applause and Feroza pumps differ only in their pulley flange but this makes them non interchangeable.
The Feroza pump pulley is slightly larger than the Applause - meaning it runs slower which is not at all what I expected. I have an Applause setup on as I have changed the belt setup and don't run a mechanical fan.
