If not is there an adapter available
Or is there an auto that can be mated to both
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sam i beleive you can bolt the chain drive Tcase behind the Lexus Auto But you can get this adapter from OTT industries in the U.S to make the toy case divorced so you can run the gear driven case. Then you just run a stock auto.

The A340 auto in the Lexus is also in the later Surfs so the transfer case is the same.. which is the chain type.
I assume what you really want to know is can you put the gear driven transfer case on the A340. Marlin makes one:
Quote from Marlin site "Tacoma/4Runner (95.5+) 5 Spd Trans/Automatic to Gear Driven Reduction Housing (79-95) Adapter W59/R150F/A340 to R1FA"

What's the advantage of the gear driven case over a chain driven one?

OK ... just worked it out. Chain drive mechanism is weaker?
Next stupid question ... What are the gear driven cases in? (ie 89+ Lux, Diesel or petrol, etc)

Gear driven is on the back of the early 4 speed boxes and the G52/W56 box which is in the hilux range until mid 1990's.

If its IFS then its chain driven. All Hilux`s became IFS in November 1997.

Not all IFS are chain driven.
Early 4runner imports with IFS run a W56 box and a gear driven case.
And Early Aussie 4runner IFS vehicles run a G52 with gear driven case as well.
All V6 4runners run a chain driven case.
I beleive up till the change over in '97 the IFS hilux's ran a chain driven case as well.

i put some thought into this a month or so ago and this is the best combo i could come up with....
Castle main sell a kit to join the lexus to a supra 5 speed, so you buy that adaptor and then marks sell a kit to fit the toyota case to the supra box, so that bolts all the together, and inbetween you toss in a dualcase adaptor.
Yeah should work and thats the best i could come up with for this swap.

Nick I appreciate the thought you put into my question but we actually want to run the auto so my next question would be will the Supra auto do the same.

The adapter (from Marlin) to put the A340 Auto box to a gear driven case looks pretty simple. Maybe Mark's has something in the pipeline or be willing to fab something up if pushed hard enough. This way you could keep the Lexus V8/Auto combo with it's original computer, loom, etc for reliability and serviceability.
1 adapter plate and a couple of engine mounts makes for a pretty simple conversion ...
Just a thought ...

Remember the A340 auto is computer controlled so its best to try and get a front cut so you get donk, box, loom and computer.
Also the A340 bolts straight up to a heap of different toyota donks so you can save heaps of dough no havin to buy an adapter !!
5M series 2.8 .. like mine (160hp)
7M series 3.0 turbo/non turbo (180-250hp)
1JZ 2.5 twin turbo/single turbo/non turbo (180-280hp)
2JZ 3.0 twin turbo/single turbo/non turbo (200-350hp)
plus the diesels 2L, 2LT, 3L, 5L and 1KZ and......
Lexus of course
and prob a heap more ?
so if you can't find a motor in that lot to do the job
