Cleveland conversion clutch drama's

I have just put a 351 clevland into my Maverick and now i havn't got enough clutch. I have adjusted the pedal to max travel and have even removed the return rubber on the pedal box for that bit extra. I can only just select a gear but I have a fair bit of weight on the thrustrace to pressure plate , it was the only way to get enough travel . This is no good tho it will only wear the clutch. I have tried adjusting the clutch fork ball in the bellhousing which made no difference. I was thinking of trying another slave cylinder for more travel. My slave is a 3/4 and i was thinking maybe I could get a 5/8 and try this approach. Has any one else had this kind of problem with their clutch , any idea's on how to overcome this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mate I just had the same problem but with a chev

I got the slave re sleeved down to 5/8 and all is spot on now.

Re sleeve cost $150 with new bango bolt and washers which was a pain in the arse but its as good as new.

Marks adaptors have a longer clutch fork pivot bolt
for use with the chev 12" clutch which i got with my kit
and never used so if you need it let me know.

I also used the non servo assisted clutch master cylinder still 3/4 from the my GQ2.8
as to gain rocker cover clearance and the clutch pedal is not much harder than the standard 2.8

Bloke on 4wd monthly forums has done this conversion.

he used a Dellow clutch plate , EL XR8 HD pressure plate and EL XR8 flywheel.

Doesnt mention anything RE clutch slave or anything, so may be worth asking him.

Hey thats me!!!!!!

Had the same prob with the windsor. We extended the pivot ball thread to get the fork to sit further forward but not engage the clutch when the pedal was up.
Standard slave cylinder.
Had the master cylinder (non boosted) bored and sleeved out. Went from 3/4 to 11/16 I think from memory.
All works well now.

how are you mate, i put a 351 cleveland in mine & had the same problem, i ended up using a ford top loader slave cylinder & a big after market resivoir of a tanem trailer & modified that to suit, i know it sounds dumb but it works really well will plenty of free play so its not wearing your clutch out.. hope this helps abit mate
