if your not in 4wd is the transfer case still spinning?

If you are in 2wd, then the t-case gears are still driving the rear output. When you engage 4wd, the front output is also engaged, usually locked to the rear output.

Basically yes. Why?

what vehicle? are the front hubs locked/unlocked etc...

just curious, thats all.
wanted to know if it was straight through the gearbox when hubs not locked in and low range not engaged.....
