Spike in power?

My Isuzu has just blew both headlight bulbs at once....

Now replaced the lights with sealed beams & took her for a spin,

all my warning lights came up on the dash & for a while there was a very electrical burning smell coming from the engine bay.

Hadn't driven it for a couple days but used it this morning & all warning lights remain on, but the smell is gone. Lights work, windscreen wipers work........

Any ideas? Not sure what it could be as I haven't had it near water (only rain) or even offroad for a few months so nothing has been altered for a while.

Also when I use blinkers etc my voltmeter reading drops & then rises as the blinker flashes? It doesn't seem to be above 12volts either.

At a guess, I'd say your alternator is cactus.

Something happened to your vehicle which caused your alternator output to max out. (In a Gen 3 Pajero, that can be something as simple as having the wrong fuse blow.) That burned out your headlights, and shortly thereafter something else - so your alternator is no longer charging your battery.

I don't know why all your warning lights would be on... Is your engine ECU controlled? Might be the ECU's way of trying to tell you that there is a major problem.

If it was me, I'd remove the alternator and take it to an auto-sparky.

Good luck,

Scott

Your right,

Ended up pulling the alternator apart, the diodes were blown as in gone.... And the coils were fried!

Got a new alternator now with warranty. Took it in for a auto elec to check & that was all it was....

Thanks heaps for the help..
